The Princeton Tec Shockwave LED dive light is now twice as bright - 400 lumens in high. Switching for Princeton Tec Shockwave LED Model TEC-8LR:
The Princeton Tec Shockwave LED has two brightness levels. To turn on the Shockwave, unlock the switch by pulling the switch lock mechanism back. Then rotate the switch half way to turn on in low mode. Continue rotating to turn on high mode.

My wife bought me a black Shockwave 400 from Brightguy as a gift in December 2009. I’d been researching dive lights and the Shockwave 400 seemed like a good value and Brightguy had them at a great price, so I happily directed her to the site.

It’s now June 2011 and I just completed my 12th dive with it in the chilly (50 deg F) Monterey, CA waters (the only place I’ve been diving) and the Shockwave 400 is still running strong on the original batteries that shipped with it. Total bottom time with it on Full Power (I don’t find the Low Power setting necessary) is about 420 mins or 7 hours, so I think the manufacturer’s claim of 12 hours on Full Power is reasonable. My light is still running strong after 2 years, though I’ll probably soon replace the batteries out of an abundance of caution.

The Shockwave 400 seems well designed, it feels solid and comfortable in the hand and has a general appearance of tightness and quality. The batteries install easily and the light has proven leak-proof with no signs of moisture or condensation inside the lens. It throws a broad, pleasingly powerful light during the dive that makes keeping buddy contact easier in murky conditions. Dive number 10 was a night dive and the Shockwave 400 provided ample power, I felt no need for more light. The wrist lanyard is attached in a good location and is useful to me. Post-dive maintenance has been easy; I rinse it in fresh water, hang it to dry, and toss it in the dive bag ‘til the next dive. The switch lock has been effective, I have suffered no accidental light activation during storage or transportation to the dive site.

My complaints are minor: the lock and switch are difficult to activate with one hand, especially while wearing thick gloves, and the Low Power setting is difficult to feel when it engages. However, battery life is so good at Full Power that I don’t bother with Low Power, preferring to enjoy all 400 lumens in all their glory. The light thrown is reasonably even, though there are some low spots noticeable, probably unavoidable with a 3-lamp design.

Overall I am highly pleased with the Shockwave 400, it has been a strong, high-quality light that I can envision diving with for many years.

Pros:
Very bright light for the money. Feels solid & comfortable in the hand and has a general appearance of tightness and quality. Used it on 12 dives and it still looks new. No leaks. Long battery life on Full Power setting. Looks dressy in black.

Cons:
Lock and switch are difficult to activate with one hand. Low Power setting is difficult to feel when the switch engages. Slight unevenness to the light but not unreasonably so.
