The Inova X5 LED flashlight uses 5 super bright white LED bulbs, in a patented stainless steel head, to produce a broad smooth pattern of light. The LEDs on the X5 are recessed in the head for protection and to reduce glare. Inova X5 will run for 20 hours on two 3V lithium batteries (included) and is waterproof to 150 feet (not dive rated). The Inova X5. It does not get any simpler than this. Inova manufactures tough lights at very reasonable prices. The X5 is no exception.

Five white directly driven LEDs reside recessed in a stainless steel bezel fitted to the aluminum body. There is no knurling so the body can be a bit slippery. The light is advertsied as water resistant. I have never tested that claim, although I have no reason to doubt it.

Switching is done via a twisty tailcap with a pushbutton momentary and lockout features. The momentary switch can be a little finicky at times resulting in some flickering. That is one of the reasons i only gave this light four stars. In practical use, you will most likely be using the twisty portion of the switch anyway.

Output from the three 5mm LEDs is in the form of a nice, even, and wide flood that just gradually fades of into the darkness. There is a touch of blue tint in the center, which is the second reason I limited this light to four stars. This light is all flood, but it is powerful enough to throw for almost 60 feet on fresh cells. Since the LEDs are directly driev the output gradually decreases from that point.

The X5 is powered by two 123A Lithium batteries that will deliver about 6 hours to 50% and many hours more of useable light after that.

The beauty of this light is its simplicity and toughness. It is a fine every day carry light, but it also makes an excellent back up light if you carry soemthing else as your EDC. Those same characteristics make it an excellent light to place in your emergency or bug out bag. The Lighium batteries guarantee a long storage life and plenmty of power when you need it. Pack a few extra cells and you have enough power to last for days if need be.

The X5 is also available in a red LED version. The red X5 is a single cell light that just plain runs forever because of the efficiency of the red LEDs. The construction of the light is identical except for it being a single cell body. Exterior dimensions are the same for both lights. Be aware however that the output of the red LEDs is mostly throw with minimal side spill. There are also numerous artifacts in the beam. Those are both characteristcs of the red LEDs and does not reflect any design deficiency. Because it is a single cell light the Red X5 is a perfect battery vampire which you can use to suck the remaining life out of the cells you remove from your other lights. Just follow proper safety precautions for lithium cells (As you should with all lithium battery powered lights).
