GW is right. The glow mode of this light makes it a nice light for camping or unfamiliar surroundings as you can always find the light. The light's case is surprisingly tough for the money. It is powered by a nine volt battery. Now here's the nice thing about that.....If you change your smoke detector batteries every 6 months or a year as recommended they often have at least 50% of their power remaining. Save them to use in this light and you get free light and, over time, a bunch of spare cells. I'd still keep a couple of fresh cells around for extended power outages, but you can easily use it most of the time on the older batteries.

Output is not fantastic. You get a small to moderately sized spot with decent throw and a little spill. Tint is a bit on the blue side. But hey, this is a bargain priced light remember? It does have two levels, so you can select just enough light to get the job done and conserve power for later. The glow mode can be disabled when it is not needed.

Overall, it makes a nice pocket, emergency, or utility light. It is a light you can take places where it might get banged up and not worry about losing it. It is also tough enough to take a lot of abuse. Should armeggeddon occur you can always find spare cells in old smoke detectors. Just remember that it is a relatively inexpensive light and do not expect a super bright or clean beam.

The best thing about this light is the glow mode, which on this newer version can be easily turned off. It makes a surprising amount of light once your eyes are dark-adapted. When I stay in hotels (frequently), I keep one on the night stand. You can actually use it to navigate in a dark room so you don't wake up your roommate. It is also great for camping to have a little night light in the tent. (Ever wake up in a strange place when its pitch black and wondered where the heck you were? Well, uh, me neither, but in case you ever did.....) This is so useful, makes you wonder why nobody else has this feature. Also, the battery lasts a remarkably long time, even with constant use of glow mode.
